Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) - Association for Innovation and R&D in Science and Technology (www.ipn.pt) is a non-profit private organization founded in 1991 and promotes innovation and technology transfer, being the main link between the University of Coimbra and the business sector.

 IPNLas (Laboratory for Automation and Systems) undertakes RTD and technology transfer activities in the fields of electronics, automation, robotics and instrumentation. We have a long experience in the areas of development of ICT based platforms for Health & Quality of Life and Intelligent Transport Systems. Hence, it gathers relevant skills and expertise in terms of addressing both mobility issues and user needs for special target groups (i.e. elderly, patients in physical rehabilitation, etc).

Moreover, IPN is strategically positioned in the value chain and have the capacity to federate the different stakeholders (i.e. from end-users to industry). In particular, IPN is one of the founders of the Ageing@Coimbra (http://www.ageingcoimbra.pt) reference site of the European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing (EIP-AHA). One of the Actions Groups in EIP-AHA (D4 Age friendly environments) addresses mobility aspects and is committed to implementing strategies for the creation of age-friendly environments which support active and healthy ageing of the European population. Hence, as an EIP-AHA reference site IPN, through Ageing@Coimbra, aims to develop a program of activities contributing to improve the functional independence of old people and to increase, by 2020, two years of active healthy life of the European citizens.

IPN is member of EIT Health, a consortium of more than 50 core partners (and in addition 90 associate organisations) of leading businesses, research centres and universities from 9 EU countries.
